October Spring racing season is the perfect excuse for stylish men to invest on more new clothes. Of course, choosing race-day appropriate pieces is your shopping priority, but you also want pieces you can wear all year round that work with your current wardrobe. Marks & Spencer has us modern gents covered. My 2 simple outfits below worked for all occasions during my 48 hours flying over to Melbourne for Melbourne Cup. The best part? My entire weekend wardrobe cost less than $500.
Part 1. Flying to your destination with minimal packing?
For a 48 hours trip, you can simply fly in your perfect outfit, with a white crewneck as your base instead of the dress shirt, which you can quickly change into as you head out to the races or those important business meetings. Alternatively, white t-shirts with a suit is always a perfect combo for almost all occasions, from a casual catch up with friends to a smart casual event. And of course with a pair of light-weight sneakers, you can leave formal shoes in your overnight bag.

Part 2.Talking business.
Swap your white t-shirt with a dress shirt and tie, and add a pocket square and lapel pin. That’s where this overnight leather bag keeps everything handy. Make sure you have the right coloured formal shoes, socks and ties packed during your trip. Safe colours such as navy, darker green, brown and tan will always do the job.
Part 3. Standing out.
At the races, it’s time to stand out. But this doesn’t mean you have to wear something crazy. Even minimal outfits can speak for themselves. How about head to toe grey, or simply a pair of shoes that will be sure to turn heads?
