How do you choose the right belt for your outfit

I had never been a details person before, always thought whatever colourful put together can be called as a “outfit”, now I realise I was somehow blinded by my rushing brain, styling is art, it requires lots of works , experience and talents to put the best outfits together. A tiny piece went wrong, the whole outfit can be ruined. Such as the belt here I used, I regretted.

so the questions : does it look good with black pants ( when wearing summer tops )
or does it look better JUST with lighter (matching ) coloured pants for summer ? ( when wearing summer tops, like whites )
