We asked help from Sydney based creative male blogger / Instagrammer Tim Lo ( @SIMPLYMONOCHROME.CO ) ( currently in London ) for his very recommendations what’s on his Sydney top cafe list, we not only stole all his crazily popular photos he put on Instagram but also got some good tips picking the best cafes for your very different tastes.
1.Creperie Suzette
Location: The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) is less than five minutes walk, easiest way to get here is by ferry or train at Circular Quay station.
34 Harrington St, The Rocks NSW 2000 (02) 8220 9999
This cafe is right next to the Harbour Rocks hotel, there is even a “insiders” secret door connected to the Harbour Rocks hotel’s lobby, if you are staying at the hotel, feel free to come down for a coffee with your dressing gown. The Harbour Rocks hotel is where all the Modern Family crew stayed back years ago.
2. Anita Gelato
Location: next to Central Park, not far from China Town, Central Station or Broadway Shopping Centre. Weekends surely it is crowded, try come in early since they open at 7 am when nobody is there!
3. Edition Coffee Roasters ( editioncoffeeroasters.com )
265 Liverpool St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010.
That is the Japanese minimal space Jiawa Liu has been craving for for a long time. She even failed to find one in Japan. Tim and I found this quiet little corner in a sunny afternoon, how lucky. Unluckily, their famous Black rice, lemon curd and raw chocolate pudding was sold out. 🙁 but their other Japanese style breakfasts are just as nice.
4. Orto Trading Co. ( ortotradingco.com )
38 Waterloo Street, Surry Hills
Tim decided to pay this café a visit after seeing its appearance on Margaret Zhang’s Instagram and it certainly did not disappoint. The food tasted just as good as they looked and the outdoor tables make it a prime spot for some good flatlay actions for the food bloggers.
5. Brewtown Newtown ( Brewtownnewtown.com )
6-8 O’Connell Street, Newtown
This is one of the places I would visit over and over again because of a few reasons. It has an amazing menu and some of tastiest and most satisfying pastries out there! Don’t forget to show up earlier on the weekends as it tends to get quite busy.
6. Autolyse Sydney ( Autolyse.com.au )
RB10/28 Broadway Street, Chippendale NSW 2008 (02) 8074 9458
One of the most popular Canberra bakeries Autolyse opened earlier this year in Sydney city but has since been forced to shut down. Lets hope they will come back soon with their yummy macarons!
7. York Trading & Co. ( Yorktradingco.com.au )
28 York Street, Sydney
No time for coffee? Why not just hop in and take a snap of the interior!
8. Pottery Green Bakers
For people love baguettes , you are coming to the right place ! They have a large selection of flavours! but this place isn’t that close to town, so if you happen to be in Gordan, make sure you come by.
4 St Johns Ave, Gordon NSW 2072. Phone:(02) 9499 8799
With a Vietnamese based menu, Pottery Green Bakers delivers a great range of comfort foods from their signature beef pho to your typical eggs benedict with salmon.
There’s a reason Surry Hills is one of the most popular suburbs in Sydney for catching up and food out, there are too many places worth getting excited about.
559 Crown St, Surry Hills NSW 2010
Looking for something different? Why not go ahead and experience ‘a little touch of France’ in Surry Hills? The savory crêpes “galettes” are definitely a must-try!
2 Danks St, Waterloo NSW 2017
The successive café that opened after the original Devon café located in Surry Hills. Besides the amazing cronuts, coffees and brunches I had there, the cool vibes and friendly staffs are also why I enjoy going to this place!
