Yes it is true- my job does allow me to capture the extraordinary and unique styles, locations and food from around the world. However, in order for me to reach my destinations from one place to another, I’m required to travel to airports and constantly board on planes. So I’ve definitely learnt a few tricks along the way and I’m going to spill the tea right here!
BEFORE YOUR TRIP
1. Clear your cookies
While booking your flight tickets, have you realised that every time you go back to the aggregator websites, the prices rises? Sometimes it’s not really as that the tickets are booked by somebody else last night while you couldn’t make the decisions but you didn’t browse the web with “Private Mode”. Clear your cookies catches and try again! You will reunion with your lowest fares.
2. Check multiple websites before booking
If you have been a fan of Skyscanner, it is a good thing. But take note that Skyscanner is good at spot lower fares within Europe. if your travel covers Asia, Australia or Africa, make sure you try aggregators such as Kayak or Google Flights. While using aggregator websites, don’t forget to double check with the original airline websites, especially comes to budget airlines. Budget Airlines does not release their cheapest fairs to commission aggregator websites.
3. Take advantage of student discounts
Ask for students discounts if you are a student! AirChina offers extra 23-30KG check-in baggage allowance for valid International students (telephone-bookings only).
4. Double-check your flight details
Always double check the Airport names and locations. There are quite a few major cities have multiple airports. Such as Shanghai, Milan, Paris , Melbourne
5. Check different modes of travel
Do you really have to fly? Explore other options of travelling. Especially comes to people who want to work with Internet, laptop charging, extra baggage or simply don’t want to miss out the view during the trip.
6. Choose an aisle seat
As much as it is pleasing to have a window seat and to experience the amazing views, having an aisle seat will allow you to not only stay warmer but will make it easier for you to get to the toilet or to take items from the over-head lockers.
7. Wear slip-on shoes
Airport security tends to request for you to take your shoes off for security checks before you board your flight. To make your travel experience as easy and comfortable as possible, wear shoes that are easy to take off.
8. Bring your own food and drinks
Instead of being charged high prices for food that, let’s be honest, doesn’t even taste good, bring your own food and drinks. Make sure you check with airport guidelines before you pack anything.
9. Make your luggage bags look unique
To avoid a stressful situation of not being able to identify your own luggage at baggage claim, make your luggage bags are styled uniquely. Put a bright ribbon on your luggage or have luggage bags that have a special colour, design or pattern. This also helps you to ensure that someone doesn’t mistakenly take your bag, thinking it’s theirs.
10. Go to the toilet before you board
While you can always use the toilets that are facilitated inside planes, it’s always good to try and avoid the hassle by going to the toilet beforehand. If you are leaving from your house, go to the toilet before you leave to head to the airport. If you are transiting between flights, make sure you have enough time so that you don’t miss your flight. Also, make sure you keep an eye on your belongings and not to leave anything behind.
DURING YOUR TRIP
11. Always bring/wear a jacket while air-travelling
No matter if you are travelling to 40 degree Africa country or boarding from 35 degrees Maldives you will most likely experience the cold. The extremely low temperatures during flights are due to the prevention of hypoxia. You might even feel the airports’ temperature fluctuations so it’s a good idea to bring a jacket.
12. Drink water
The air in airplanes tends to be around 15% dryer than usual, so drinking 8 ounces (250 ml) of water per hour is highly recommended. It will also help to reduce jetlag symptoms after you land.
13. Sleeping at the airports.
Most of us would have experienced a long wait at transit airports like in Singapore , Beijing, Shanghai or Amsterdam . Explore “Sleeping In Airports” to find more ways to save money during your adventure.
AFTER YOUR TRIP
14. Know your rights
