Hello from China!
I was very excited to visit Shanghai, it is definitely fall-in-love-at-the-first-sight kind city. This is actually my second time visiting this big city since 9 years ago. I was here just for Ayumi Hamasaki’s concert with all the money I saved up in the whole year, so this city is very special to me. And and and!!! Adam recently met Ayumi in person during a flight to Japan!
Back to the topic, feel lucky and grateful to work with Airbnb during this Shanghai trip to experience what local experts have to offer in Shanghai at “Airbnb Experience” section. From dumpling making, Chinese Opera teaching/dressing to Hidden Spots Morning Photography Tour, you can definitely find something interests you here, since they basically cover all kinds of hobbies. Shanghai Experience is actually quite new for Shanghai Airbnb, only just launched this year, has drawn lots of visitors and Airbnb-stayers to try. Different from other tour or classes, Airbnb Experience’s feedback from visitors is extremely honest and open, you can see all kinds of comments travellers have left there. I wish I had the time to experience them all. I picked the Kung Qu Opera experience and the vintage film camera photoshoot session, which I was super excited about.
I will also be sharing some essential information helping you preparing your own Shanghai/China trip in this blog post. If you have any questions regarding Airbnb booking or Shanghai travel, please feel free to leave a comment or DM me on Instagram, I will be sure to get in touch.
Check out the video and still images we created during this trip, I hope you can also fall in love with this great culture experience like I did and any feedbacks would be appreciated!
China Travel Tips:
- Mobile phone and Internet: It is gonna be hard to get a public wifi without mobile number confirmation or Wechat account, so make sure you are prepared to pay pricy roaming data or get a Chinese number. I got a China Unicom number with great data deals. I paid $15 dollars with data inclusive – about 1GB per day for only 1 CNY – and the connection is amazing!
- Pick the right airport: There are two airports in Shanghai, Pudong Airport is way out of the city and HongQiao Airport is only 20 minutes drive from city centre.
- Uber & Uber Eats: There are no Uber in China, so make sure you download this app and this app. The delivery speed is insane, try it out.
- VPN in China: most VPN are not working in China, the VPN I know works well is Star VPN, only the premium service works. Make sure you download it before you arrive in China as even your app store may stop working in China.
